Not really sure why this venue is showing up as Irvine, CA. This was in San Antonio (Selma), TX.
All I have to say is "CRAZY!"
This fest was awesome. Over 10 hours of non-stop music from awesome bands! I'm a huge fan of Slipknot so I didn't mind dragging my buddy with me over 500mi from El Paso to see them. All the bands were impressive. Some of which I never really listened to but now am a fan after seeing them live (Black Tide, 36 Crazyfists, Red Chord). Others I have listened to for a while (Slipknot, Disturbed, Mastodon, FFDP, WOJ) and their performances further justify my appreciation for them.
On the side stages the one who stole the show was Walls Of Jericho. The performance was heavy and the crowd was WILD! The sky looked like something out of a war movie. There was projectiles all over the place from beer bottles to water bottles to shoes and other articles of clothing. It got more intense with further encouragement from Candace Kucsulain (Lead from WOJ). Once she pushed it, the air was a sea of objects. All this with the huge circle pit and one disabled gentleman in a wheelchair being crowdsurfed by the audiance totaled to one of the most satisfying performances I've seen in a while.
Slipknot. The highlight of the evening. And a highlight indeed! Fantastic performance. It was great to see them back together and laying down some metal again. They played a lot of the fan favs like Duality, Before I Forget, Heretic Anthem, plus the new single Psychosocial. Who cares if it was the Amazon with 120degree heat and 130% humidity. It was well worth the sunburn, sore back and legs from standing 10hrs straight, and buckets of sweat to see these guys!
